More information This particular sequential serial vintage U47’s, owned and purchased new in the 1960’s by virtuoso cuatro player Fredy Reyna, has remained in the Reyna family's possession ever since in great working condition. Used at his personal studio for making acoustic recordings for many years. This pair has just undergone a complete service in December 2023 by Master microphone technician David Brown at the Microphone Repair Shop in Los Angeles California . He painstakingly worked on matching the power supply's back to specifications and fine-tuned them to perfectly to work with the microphones for optimal stereo pairing and the sonic quality they are well known for. Its estimated that around 6,000 Neumann U47 microphones were produced, since this pair were some of the latest production batch from Neumann with serial numbers on the 5458 & 5459. This U47’s were originally fitted with RCA Nuvistor vacuum tubes, since Telefunken had depleted their VF 14 M rated stocked tubes by 1959. VF14 Tubes have a maximum shelf life of 30 years with only about 20 years of high-performance use, averaging out to about 5000 total usable hours. One should be skeptical about any vintage VF14 condition and recognize that al vintage tube U47’s will need a proper tube replacement or a suitable working alternative. Upon his recommendation and obsession with perfection, he had the tubes replaced to , capsules cleaned and the power supplies were adjusted and re-fitted with new filters capacitors ordered from Germany to have them sounding exactly to the original Neumann specifications, measuring and testing was done for all original electronic parts and microphones original BV8 transformer, any part that passed the QC diagnostics was left untouched. With David’s Brown expertise and new tubes installed, great care was taken to match current and output impedance parameters to that of the original VF14 tube, this pair will be like new for years to come, with accessible tubes for replacement while keeping the U47 original sound. With the advantage of replacing the tubes with ones that are within reach at this day and age and with the same or even better performance than VF14’s that are sold on the market today. The updated tubes provide a longer life before needing to be replaced. David Brown stands by his work and the mics could be sent back to him if there is any trouble related to his work with the microphones or power supply. Everything was taken into consideration, from fine tuning the power supply, all electronics, cleaning of the original K47 capsules, that still had the factory wax covering the screws, never opened, measuring and replacing the not to par aged components with original or better new old stock parts, so they work at their optimal performance. You will get a fine tuned and newly services pair of Vintage U47 microphones.
